Manuscript Analysis
Editing Publication Coaching Ghostwriting Marketing and Promotion |
A three- to six-page evaluation of your manuscript that will discuss what works, what doesn't, what needs to be fleshed out further, what might be eliminated, and offers specific suggestions on how to proceed with a rewrite.
Stephen King, our financially most successful author, and a very good writer, says that it's all in the rewriting. In that spirit, we offer big picture story editing and/or more detailed paragraph editing. We will fix some grammatical and spelling mistakes in the process, but we don't do copy editing for the whole manuscript. We usually edit in red and make suggestions in blue, so that the author can choose and be as much or as little involved in the direction the manuscript takes. We work with professional cover designers, layout artists, make sure blurbs, bio, copyright page and other aspects are of the highest professional caliber, as well as guide self-publishing authors through the mine field of print on demand, conventional printers, e-book conversions, etc., to make the most cost-effective decisions that get the best results. After more than 20 years working with playwrights, novelists and non-fiction writers, as well as having written my own books, I know many of the hurdles first and second time writers face and can help them move forward to finishing their manuscript. I can also coach them on the publication. For would-be authors who have a good story to tell, but aren't strong at writing, we can do provide a ghostwriter, who will create a manuscript based on taped interviews, research, and other appropriate material. The secret to successful marketing and promotion that many first-time authors learn too late comes in parts: One, ideally marketing should begin before the manuscript is finished, not after the book has been printed. And two, authors need to paddle their canoe vigorously if they wish their books to succeed. We can offer help, coaching, write attention-getting press releases and steer those that wish to hire others to promote for them in the right direction. |
